2. Overview: what data we process

jetlag.info is an informational website with client-side calculators. You can read our articles and use the calculators without creating an account and without giving us your name or e-mail address. We process personal data only in the following limited ways:

• technical connection data written to server log files when you request a page (see section 3);
• a reach-measurement cookie and identifier if Google Analytics 4 is active (see section 4);
• your IP address transmitted to Google when the page loads web fonts from Google’s servers (see section 6).

The calculators themselves do not send the trips or dates you enter to our server (see section 7).

3. Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted on the infrastructure of Triplemind GmbH on servers located in Germany / the European Union. When you visit the site, the web server automatically records data that your browser transmits, in so-called log files:

• the requested URL and the referring page (referrer),
• the date and time of the request,
• the browser type and version, the operating system, and the user agent,
• the requesting IP address.

This data is necessary to deliver the website, to keep it stable and secure, and to detect and defend against attacks. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in the secure and reliable operation of the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log data is stored only for as long as needed for these purposes and is then deleted or shortened; it is not merged with the analytics data described below to build a personal profile.

4. Web analytics: Google Analytics 4

To understand how the site is used and to improve it, we use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-FRXD2SJHW8), a service provided by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Google Analytics uses a cookie and a randomly generated identifier to recognise your browser across pages of this site and to produce aggregated statistics such as page views, approximate location, device type and the paths visitors take through the site.

IP anonymisation is enabled. We set the anonymize_ip parameter, so your IP address is truncated by Google before any further processing and is not stored in full. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising or cross-site tracking, and we have not enabled advertising features.

Recipient and international transfer. The data generated by the cookie is processed by Google. Processing can involve a transfer to Google LLC in the United States. Google is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and Google additionally relies on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses as a safeguard for such transfers. You can read Google’s own information at policies.google.com/privacy.

Legal basis. Where a consent tool is used on this site, analytics is loaded only after you have given your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time with effect for the future. Otherwise we rely on our legitimate interest in the needs-based design and statistical analysis of our website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), with IP anonymisation applied as a safeguard.

How to object / opt out. You can prevent analytics by:

• declining or withdrawing consent in any consent banner shown to you;
• installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout;
• blocking or deleting cookies in your browser settings, or enabling a “Do Not Track” / tracking-protection feature.

5. Cookies

A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser. This site does not use advertising or marketing cookies — there is no Google AdSense or comparable ad network on jetlag.info. The only cookies that may be set are those used by Google Analytics for reach measurement, if analytics is active (see section 4):

• _ga — distinguishes visitors; typical lifetime up to 2 years.
• _ga_<container-id> — used by Google Analytics 4 to persist the session state; typical lifetime up to 2 years.

You can delete cookies at any time and configure your browser to refuse them. The interactive calculators may additionally store your inputs in your browser’s sessionStorage so a result survives a page reload; this is technical storage on your own device, not a cookie, and it is described in section 7.

6. Web fonts (Google Fonts)

This site uses the “Fraunces”, “Instrument Sans” and “IBM Plex Mono” typefaces, which are loaded from Google’s font servers (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com) when a page is displayed. When the fonts are requested, your IP address is transmitted to Google so the files can be delivered to your browser. This is done in our legitimate interest in a consistent and appealing presentation of the site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Google’s handling of this data is described at policies.google.com/privacy.

7. Calculators and tools (processed in your browser)

All calculators on jetlag.info — the jet lag calculator, time-difference, body-clock, light-exposure and the other tools — run entirely in your browser (client-side). The airports, times and dates you enter are used to compute a result on your own device. This trip data is not sent to our server and is not stored by us.

• The airport list used for autocomplete is a static data file delivered from our own server; loading it transmits no personal data about you beyond the ordinary server-log entry for that file (section 3).
• To keep a result visible after a page reload, a tool may store your inputs in your browser’s sessionStorage, which your browser clears when you close the tab.
• Some tools encode your inputs in the page URL (query parameters) so you can bookmark or share a result. That link only ever contains what you chose to put into the tool, and it stays under your control.

Because this processing happens on your device, we never receive your travel plans, and there is nothing on our side to request, correct or delete for the tools themselves.

8. Data security

This website is served exclusively over an encrypted TLS/HTTPS connection, so the data exchanged between your browser and the site is protected in transit. We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the data we process against loss, manipulation and unauthorised access.

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the following rights regarding your personal data, which you can exercise using the contact details in section 1:

• Access (Art. 15) — to know whether and what data about you we process;
• Rectification (Art. 16) — to have inaccurate data corrected;
• Erasure (Art. 17) — to have your data deleted where the conditions are met;
• Restriction (Art. 18) — to have processing limited;
• Data portability (Art. 20) — to receive data you provided in a structured, machine-readable format;
• Withdrawal of consent (Art. 7(3)) — to withdraw any consent you gave, with effect for the future;
• Objection (Art. 21) — see below.

10. Right to object

Where we process your data on the basis of our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — this applies to the server logs, web analytics and web fonts described above — you have the right to object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to that processing (Art. 21 GDPR). For analytics you can also object simply and immediately using the opt-out options in section 4. If you object, we will no longer process the affected data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights and freedoms.

11. Right to lodge a complaint

If you believe that our processing of your personal data infringes the GDPR, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state of your residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement. For Triplemind GmbH the competent authority is the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Der Hessische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit).

12. Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes to the website or to legal requirements — for example if a consent tool is added or an analytics setting changes. The current version always applies and is available on this page; the date at the top shows when it was last revised.
